Not sure how this happened. I spent a few hours reading and rereading the letter and being so annoyed at the thunderstorm outside.

“Summons: Ophelia Champs, it has come to our attention that your emotional state is affecting the local weather patterns. You are now required to attend weekly mood calibration sessions.”

I didn’t really know what that meant, but there was an address and a time. I sat outside in my car and stared at the door for what felt like forever, but was actually about thirty seconds. It was a therapist’s office.

Apparently, because it was my fault, the clouds above were dark. I was told to go right in. I sat down on the far end of the couch, and waited for the session to start.

“Let’s start with your parents.” The therapist said. She was a normal-looking woman, with dark black hair and violet eyes.

“I don’t have any.” I said. The bush right outside the window bent with the force of the wind.

“Let’s start with what you do know about them.”

“I don’t know anything about them, except that they didn’t want me.”

“Ophelia…” the therapist took off her glasses and pinched the bridge of her nose. “Of course they wanted you. They couldn’t keep you because you couldn’t control your moods.”

“So it’s my fault?” The room started to fade into shades of blue.

“The farmers had a rough year, the crops went bad, and the whole city started to demand your head. It didn’t matter that you were a child, the people were a superstitious bunch. But if you can learn to control your emotions, you can go home to them.”

“And where is ‘home’?” I decided to play along. This ridiculous conversation wasn’t leading anywhere.

“Lotana.” She said. The room had changed. They were now in another room, one that was similarly decorated to the office, but the walls had turned into metal.

“What is a Lotana?” I asked.

The therapist tapped her ear.

“We’re ready, captain.” She turned her attention back to me. All I could do was keep hugging the arm of the couch. The room started to vibrate.

“Lotana is your home planet.” She explained. “Earth isn’t safe for you anymore.”
