Naomi could walk when she got home. That alone sent the alarm bells off. A six month mission to the planet Venus and a week long trip back to Earth couldn’t change that much, could it?
Naomi had a spring in her step her second day back. She should have been adjusting to the higher gravity of Earth. But she felt like a ballet dancer, floating above the ground, gliding with ease around the house. Even if she was wearing socks.
On a hunch, she pulled out the bathroom scale. She weighed ninety-three pounds. She usually weighed about One Thirty-Two. Three-fourths of her weight.
She got out a rubber ball and threw it against the wall in the hallway. The ball kept bouncing and stopped at twelve bounces before rolling away. This was bad.
It was fun, but it was still bad.
Naomi went to the office, even though it took a terrifying twenty minute drive that usually took twelve minutes. She even took the stairs. There was no problem. Slight bouncing up the stairs was fun.
“Naomi? I thought you would come back to the office next week.” Her boss said.
“Rourke, we’ve got a serious problem.” Naomi frowned.
“Tell me.” He said.
“I think they’ve done it. I think they’ve stolen our gravity.”
